The pebble from the beach sits next to my easel, reminding me of the true colour and feel of the coast. As I paint, I remember the feeling of moving through the water, I want to feel this rhythm in the waves of my painting.
A fishing boat trip down in Beer, Devon. It was early morning and the light hitting the water and cliffs was dazzlingly beautiful. I took photographs aboard the boat that soon became sketches; I took a pebble from the beach. When I landed I drew sketches from the photographs and when I got back to Bristol, I began to paint.
